How is that adaptive cruise control?
Hi tjzizzo,
Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is a very convenient feature for trips on the highway. In the beginning I was afraid of it but now I rely on it a lot.
First you switch it on and it locks your current speed as max speed (eg 90km/h). Next you may increase it either by steps of 10km/h or 1 km/h depending on the steering wheel button you choose. This way you tell the ACC what your max speed you want to be eg 130km/h. Maximum speed limit with ACC switched on is 160km/h
Second adjustment is the distance you want to maintain from the vehicle in front of you. There are 5 types f distance you may choose from (very small, small, medium, large, very large)
Third you choose your driving program between "normal", "sport" and "eco". I have mine in "sport" mode. This setting affects the time of acceleration or deceleration. If the vehicle in front comes very close there's a warning sign in your MFD
In "sport" mode if a slower vehicle in front of you is detected the deceleration starts more close to the vehicle than in "eco" mode ("normal" mode is in between of these two). The acceleration is faster also in "sport" mode
From the moment that ACC is "ON" you remove your foot from the accelerator pedal. If for any reason you need to go faster than the defined ACC limit (eg from 130 -> 150 km/h) you press the accelerator pedal. As soon as you remove your foot from the pedal your speed goes back from 150 km/h to 130 km/h. If you want to deactivate ACC there are 2 options: a) you slightly press the brake pedal and b) you press the "0/I" button on the steering wheel.
I have M/T and not DSG. With DSG the ACC can stop the car to 0 km/h and then accelerate (

I have only just learned about this feature, the new technology in cars is amazing, and it's only getting better. Of course, it's great to hear about real experiences with it :) Compared to the brand new cars, my 2002 Mazda is starting to look vintage :)
