Long time of inactivity made me want to do something to the car. So today I present you my attempt to do one of the most discussed retrofits. It is not that much about safety, nor about being a cheap one. It is simply fancy (maybe a bit luxurious) and something that would bring my Comfortline closer to the Highline version.
Background:
First: To install the folding mirrors, you have to check that your door controllers have a product code of the form 5Qx 959 59x x. My controllers were 5Q0 959 39x (5Q0 959 393 for driver side and 5Q0 959 392 for passenger side).
Second thing you have to have in mind is the PR CODES of the mirrors themselves. Different PR CODES support different functions. According to the most complete PRCode guide about Golf VII mirrors this is the list of functions depending on the PRCode:
PRCode: QQ3 = Ambient and environment lighting support
PRCode: QQ0 = Without add. lights (interior lighting) support
PRCode: 6XD = Exterior mirrors: electrically adjustable/heated
PRCode: 6XE = Exterior mirrors: electrically foldable and electrically adjustable/heated
PRCode: 6XF = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically foldable/adjustable/heated
PRCode: 6XG = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically adjustable/heated
PRCode: 6XN = Exterior mirrors: electrically adjustable, separately heated
PRCode: 6XP = Exterior mirrors: electrically folding, electrically adjustable, separately heated
PRCode: 6XQ = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically foldable/adjustable, separately heated
PRCode: 6XR = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically adjustable, separately heated
I wanted my new mirrors not only to be foldable but also to offer memory function when dipping with reverse gear (as my previous mirrors where returning in a random position after dipping). According to the table above I had to find PRCode 6XQ (with memory function, electrically foldable/adjustable, separately heated) for passenger side and 6XP for driver side.
To buy such mirrors and door controllers you have to dig into the vast world of eBay or Aliexpress. Alixepress offers new unused items while in eBay used items are sold. I concluded that I would buy from a reputed seller as he offered a complete package (mirror housings, mirrors, door controllers and switch) and in the past have send me quickly items of great quality. I was afraid though to order from him because of customs and the possibility to pay taxes for items already expensive enough. So buying from an eBay seller that is registered in an EU country was an one-way solution.
Problems regarding eBay buying:
The problems I faced on eBay had to do with various factors: the overall condition of the used items, what items the seller sells (eg some sell full mirrors with controllers 5Q4 959 592 x while others with 5Q0 959 592 x, some without controllers, some sell mirrors without switch, some sell mirrors without plastic covers etc etc), the price, the lack of details of how many pins have the mirror connectors).
It was obvious I had quite some reading to do:
1) Which controllers should I buy? 5Q0 959 59x or 5Q4 959 59x?
2) Which controllers permit the mirrors to fold in when the car is locked and unfold on switching on the engine?
3) Which controllers permit the mirrors to fold in when the car is locked and unfold on unlocking the doors
The real problem is that the eBay sellers they do not really know all the details. Although they promptly respond to messages, you cannot get a clear answer.
At that point I found a seller from Slovenia who offered used mirrors removed from a GTD with 45000km including:
* Stickers on mirrors proved that mirrors had PRCode 6XQ and 6XP
* 9 pin connector for driver and 13 pin for passenger side
* 5Q0 959 592 A (right side — passenger) 5Q0 959 593 A (left side — driver)
* Switch
I considered this a “safe” option and placed the order. The seller was excellent in communication, careful packaging and the most incredible was that it took the item 3 days to arrive with Slovenian Post. Each item had better looks than in photos so the seller probably cleaned them carefully before sending.

Installation:
Excellent installation guides can be found in these links:
* www.uspmotorsports.com/do…ads/M001-Instructions.pdf
* www.golfmk7.com/forums/sh….php?p=207669&postcount=1
* www.golfmk7.com/forums/sh….php?p=247679&postcount=1
I performed the Installation with careful steps and it proved to be easy. The door controllers can be removed very easily. A small tip is that you must route the new mirror cable in the same channel as the old one. Doing otherwise may cause the windows to be blocked by the cable. For this purpose I used a piece of electrical wire (approximately 1 meter long) and some electrical tape. Thus, when removing the old cable the electrical wire was routed in the same channel.

It was time for the VCDS coding:
![[52-Door Elect. Pass]-Byte 1 (blue letters are activated options) — Volkswagen Golf Mk7. Found on photo: 5Q0959592A](https://a1.drive-data.ru/b4eb7d6s-960.jpg)
![[52-Door Elect. Pass]-Byte 4 — Volkswagen Golf Mk7. Found on photo: 5Q0959592A](https://a1.drive-data.ru/5333fd6s-960.jpg)
The result was this:

I also tested the memory function which is functioning perfectly (but only if you enable Bit1 of Byte 4 regardless if your car has memory seats) using the Advanced measuring values of VCDS:

Problems after installation
As soon as I was happy about the new feature of my car, I realised there were 3 problems:
1) The mirrors wouldn't unfold when I unlock the door car with the keyfob like this video. They would unfold only when starting the engine with the key
2) The orange light of the locker remained white although the car was locked from the inside
3) The driver mirror folds or unfolds a fraction of a second later than the passenger mirror

For the 1st problem it seems that the culprit is the controller version. I would advice that (if you find unfold on unlocking important) to buy the 5Q4 959 59x version and not the one that I bought. Although I like the unfolding on unlocking I will not spend more money to buy new controllers.
For the 2nd problem, the solution of visiting the dealer and using ODIS for online coding is correct. I followed this piece of advice and did a visit to the dealer and now the orange light is working
For the 3rd problem, I decided not to pay attention at all. I read that other people have the same issue too. The online coding with ODIS solved the orange light problem but this small delay in folding & unfolding was not affected.

Hello. I have the same mirror assembly installed in my car: driver 5Q0 959 593 B and passenger 5Q0 959 592 B. Please tell me if if I update the firmware version, will the mirror parameters be updated automatically?
Stock firmware is 0025 (B), but I also have update 0028 (D), 0041 and 0042 (E).
I don't really know. I haven't done a firmware upgrade myself on these modules, so no personal experience. My assumption is that they will be updated
I checked. I updated to firmware 0042 — the new dataset is not needed. But just in case, I got it and downloaded it too. Everything works without complaints. From the innovation is that now when decoding the DTC in blocks 42 and 52 there is an error and it is identified as "ambient backlight error". On the older firmware it was written more vaguely and unspecifically, namely "B132601 breakage of the warning lamp circuit" (which, by the way, I don't have). Now the backlight in my front thresholds does not work, because water flows into the threshold through the rear speaker and you can see there is corrosion and the backlight has stopped working. As if everything)
Hi! How can I understand which controllers I have installed? With the help of ETKA? Or just by disassembling the door and looking at the controllers live? Thank you!
Hello, I would like to ask something unrelated to the topic. I recently installed a Universal mirror folding on my Volkswagen Jetta. Do you know which trigger cables are in the door lock?
I am really sorry. I am not familiar with any other car wiring info. My knowledge is limited to Golf 7
Oh well thank you.
I have question
By default I had the modules:
SW: 5Q4 959 393 E (HW: 5Q4 959 393 B)
SW: 5Q4 959 592 E (HW: 5Q4 959 592 B)
I only changed the driver module from 5Q4 959 393E to 5Q4 959 593E. I left the module on the passenger side because I had the correct 5Q4 959 592 E
Today I moved the mirrors + replacement of the module + coding.
Effect: only the left mirror folds. Passenger side mirror does not fold down. Is it the fault of the module? Serial numbers appear to be correct. Maybe some additional coding and parameterization?
I connected VCDS to module 52 (passenger door) and did a test of actuators: IDE 04587 — Folding mirrors -> execute -> Error: This output is not supported by the driver.
Is the 5Q4 959 592 E passenger driver correct?
The mirrors are functional because I gave 12v to the appropriate pins and the left and right ones folded correctly.
Hi. 1st of all, nice tutorial, very useful information.
I'm thinking of doing the same operation but I'm kinda new to this. I already read a lot of information on other forums too but I still have some questions. To you, if I may ask, why did you install de mirror with memory option on the passenger side and not on the driver side? I even thought that both mirrors should have memory option together with memory seats.
Thanks for your time.
Greetings to Portugal!
In theory you are right: mirror function should be enabled for both mirrors. In reality though, for a LHD car, the factory installed mirrors only have the memory option working for the passenger mirror. The motor of the driver side (despite being the same as the motor on the passenger side) is not capable of functioning the same way as the passenger side motor. There was an attempt of a respected member called gamester1 who tried to install a passenger side motor to the drivers mirror without success. Read about his efforts:

Hi harisg, thanks for your reply.
I read the 3 posts, I did understand part of it, not all though.
Why does only the passenger mirror have memory fonction from factory? (Is it with all VW models like that, or specific to golf?)
Does that mean that only the passengers mirror will assume the specific position linked to the corresponding memory button on the seat? And what about the drivers mirror, will it also assume the specific position linked to the corresponding memory button on the seat (even if it hasn't the memory option), or do you have to adjust it manually?
I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge but since my car doesn't have memory fold in mirrors, I don't really know the behavior of these kind of mirrors.
Thanks a lot for your time.

I really have no reply and cannot (sometimes) understand VW engineers…

I have not installed seats with memory. I have retrofitted only the folding mirrors. To the best of my knowledge only the passenger mirror returns back to its position while that of the driver's side needs manual adjustment
Hi, thanks for your information.
I thought mirrors with memory function could only be installed if you had also memory seats.
Thanks, have a nice day
Hi. Could you please tell me the coding for the driver's mirror? Cause there is only coding for the passenger side.

Hi. Could you please tell me the coding for the driver's mirror? Cause there is only coding for the passenger side.
Did you get the 5Q4 959 59x x version or the 5Q0 959 59x x version of door controllers?
5Q0 959 592|3 B. I made the coding like in this guide www.dropbox.com/s/7ec7td2…0R%20%2716%20MK7.pdf?dl=0 but nothing happened. Just the right mirror light switches on and nothing else.
With the coding from the PDF you have deactivated the driver light.
I suggest that you disable Byte 1 — Bit 5
The 3F coding in the PDF is for a Golf R that has more lights on the door (eg Ambient lighting).
For my car the coding 15 is suitable
No, I didn't make 3f, my coding is 30. I'll try it later. But I think the problem is in the Chinese switcher.
Both the BCM and the 5Q0 959 592|3 B door controllers have to be coded!
Verify that you have both set up correctly. If yes then it is the Chinese to blame
OK. But it's Chinese thing. I'll switch on the engine and the mirrors makes fold when I turn the switcher to the left mirror. Here's a photo of this thing.
Byte 1 — Bit 0 must be enabled. If you enable it from 30 you go to 31
kayle

With coding 30 you have not enabled "Door entry lights installed" !
Maybe you are right. Yesterday my notebook couldn't work as long as I needed so I didn't have enough time.
I am pretty sure you will succeed after:
1) enabling Byte 1 — Bit 0 and
2) correctly coding the BCM (as the screenshot I sent you)
Let me know how it went. Also report if the 5Q0 959 592|3 B door produce have the same 3 problems as in my case (at the bottom of my article)
I tried yesterday and didn't get your problems — the lock light works as usual and mirrors fold together without delay. Maybe this is why I made the coding for the 42 and 52 blocks without bcm.
Do the mirrors unfold when you press the key to unlock the car or they unlock when you start the engine?
Neither of these. They just fold if I switch on the ignition and turn the mirrors switcher.
BCM coding needed ;-)
I'll write later if it works 😀
harisg

BCM coding needed ;-)
I don't know why but after coding the driver's mirror goes more slowly than the passenger's. And they fold and unfold without the system. I coded (24)-Access control 2-Funk Spiegelanklappung Modus to fold with the long hold of the key button but it's useless.
I am sorry for not being able to help you.
For me the BCM coding I have sent you was necessary for the operation.
My driver door coding is: 001503205000048000001000
My passenger door coding is: 00150120DE00048000801000
Could this be a problem of not proper PRCode of the mirrors themselves?
I don't think so. The bcm coding which you sent was necessary. I just forgot about it.
So? Everything works as expected?
Nope) as I said they fold and unfold without any system. But they fold anyway)))

No, the driver's module was coded
bit 6 and bit 2 have nothing to do with the mirror folding. If you have this lights on your door panel then keep them enabled. Other than than it seems correctly coded
I installed the door lights but you are right the 6 bit is incorrect, these are the different mirrors)
Yes. Although it says "Mirror/Door handle/Speaker" it is in fact required only for door handle lights (therefore not needed to you)
I thought it's required for makeup mirrors too. But yesterday I read "mirrors" and it was enough =)

Nothing really changed =( the passenger's side is lighting while the driver's not.

Is this happening while Byte 1 — bit 5 for the driver's side is unchecked?
I've sent you my coding of this side. It's all was set up but nothing changed.
Maybe then you should check if the light is defective. Try to supply it with 12V or use a multimeter
Yeah, this is my next step.

If you also want the passenger mirror to dip when reversing, there are more channels in your BCM to change ;-)
My previous mirror had the parking mode =)

By the way do you know the part number of the mirrors switcher?
5GG 959 565 C
Thanks but 5gg doesn't mean it's Chinese?
Yes it is Chinese version. I managed to scratch the one that came with the mirrors. So I changed it with a chinese 5GG 959 565 C. The original I believe is 5G0 959 565 M
Yes, I've ordered 5G0959565m from my polish supplier. Hope it helps. Fuck those Chinese stuff.
Excellent work! How much if it's not a secret?
Thank you. It's not difficult to do. Price is not a secret. It costed me 350€. I'm sure you can find a bit cheaper. I regret not having it installed from factory. It would cost me much less. But then is the joy of retrofitting :-) If you have more questions just let me know.
I regret I didn`t buy the comfortline cause there is no such option in my car from factory. But it`s better, I know what I must have in the next car =)
